Soapstone is a type of metamorphic rock that contains the mineral talc and magnesium. The historical use of soapstone is significant as it was used as the medium for carving, construction of fireplaces and woodburning masonry heaters. In modern times, soapstone is popular  in construction of not only countertops and floor tiles but also sculptures and whiskey stones.
